Nicola Salerno favourites tweet criticising Leeds owner Massimo Cellino

Leeds United's outgoing sporting director Nicola Salerno has been active on Twitter again.

Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino is busy planning for the future, and Nicola Salerno does not appear to be a part of it.

Speaking at his much-criticised press conference last week, Cellino told the Yorkshire Evening Post that Salerno no longer fitted his vision for the club.

He said: "Here we need a head of recruitment who comes from England, knows the players, everything.

“He can advise us. Salerno unfortunately is Italian.”

Salerno had been on an unscheduled leave of absence since the backlash to his controversial suspending of assistant coach Steve Thompson, and remaining quiet in recent weeks.

Yesterday though he was active on social networking site Twitter, and 'favourited' a comment from a Leeds United fan stating he deserved an apology from Massimo Cellino.

It is unclear whether Salerno is still officially under contract to Leeds or not, with his future one of many issues which the club need to give clarity on, despite Cellino's comments last week.

Cellino vented about several wasted signings last week, sounding as though he was angry at head coach Neil Redfearn for not playing many of them, but also Salerno over a lack of quality.

Leeds were linked with appointing Celtic head of recruitment David Moss as sporting director by the Yorkshire Evening Post a fortnight ago.
