Rangers secured their progression to the play-off semi-final by defeating Hibs 3-2 on aggregated, and speaking to the Daily Mail, McCall praised Haris Vuckic’s role in the 1-1 draw at Ibrox.
McCall said: “He's a tall lad, but he's not great defensively as in picking somebody up. We put him in the hole and once the ball goes over his head we get him to go back on the line. We actually went through it on Sunday so I'm delighted he did his job and with his all-round performance.
“We played him in a different role today. We went for a diamond. We changed it round and we got him, certainly in the first half, in good areas of the park.”
Primarily, McCall was praising the game winning impact that Vuckic had in his own penalty area, having cleared a shot off the line with 10 minutes to go.
Considering it has been his goal scoring form that has been most impressive since signing for the Light Blues, to see Vuckic improve in his defensive work should bring much praise to McCall for the work he has done with the Slovenian loanee.
His quality in front of goal has never been questioned, but to have had such an incredible change in his defensive work-rate should be lauded.
Vuckic has certainly had a great impact at Ibrox since his arrival on loan from Newcastle in the January transfer window. He has scored some vital goals to keep the club in the running for the play-offs, and he will be looking to keep up his impressive form in the vital ties coming up.
His impressive performances have endeared him to the Rangers fans, and he will be hoping to repay them by leading the Light Blues back into the top flight come the end of this campaign.
