One of Leeds United's most talented young players has been talking about the time he came up against Tottenham Hotspur.
Byram has played 119 times for Leeds’ senior side to date, with 39 of those appearances coming this season. But he has highlighted two matches in particular – both of which came in his debut campaign.
“If I had to pick out certain games then it would probably be the cup games in my first season. Chelsea and Tottenham are two of the best teams around, so to get the chance to face them, at home and in my first year, was pretty special.
“If I had to pick one, it would probably be Tottenham as we won that game.”
Byram has enjoyed a wonderful season at Elland Road with his recent switch from right-back to right winger paying dividends for club and player alike.
Leeds may have finished the season 15th in the Championship but there is plenty to be positive about on the pitch, with Byram just one of a number of exciting young players coming through the ranks.
Having selected the Tottenham match as his favourite of the 119 to date, the obvious question is: When will he get the chance to turn out against such opposition again?
The cup competitions could result in some intriguing clashes, but Leeds will be hoping that next season they can push on and earn promotion back to the top flight after so long away.
If they can, suddenly Byram and his teammates will be facing the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea on a weekly basis, and for a player of his talent, that would be well deserved.
