And it was a case of the same again on social media after the Iceland midfielder netted another impressive goal for Swansea City against Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
There was, of course, the issue of Sigurdsson perhaps not cutting it at Spurs and not fitting in. There was heavy competition for places in attacking midfield and 'big fish' theory suggests the 25-year-old is at his best at a team like Swansea where he can star, as opposed to Tottenham where there are a number of similar players.
But what can't be denied is how well Sigurdsson has done since leaving White Hart Lane. What a season he's had at Swansea, which was added to with another goal against strong opposition in Manchester City.
That led a number of Tottenham fans to once again express their regret that the club ever sold the Icelander. Some were even aware that they were repeating themselves - as they have made their feelings known already - but persisted anyway.
Here's some of the best reaction as Sigurdsson yet again planted seeds of doubt into Spurs supporters' minds on Twitter:
I think selling Sigurdsson was a mistake. Great player to have in the squad #thfc— 18 (@TSpellar) May 17, 2015
Not going to lie he's one player I wish we never let go Gylfi Sigurdsson he would have been perfect for this season #THFC— CiaranBrogan (@CiaranBrogan93) May 17, 2015
