Jermaine Jenas has taken to social networking site Twitter to suggest that the hammering at Southampton on Saturday is good for Aston Villa.
The Villans suffered a humiliating 6-1 defeat to the Saints away from home at St. Mary’s Stadium.
The way Tim Sherwood’s side collapsed against Southampton, especially in the first half, would have come as a surprise to many.
Villa have been playing well in recent weeks and have been winning games, and the defeat to Southampton increased worries over their Premier League status for next season.
Results elsewhere on Saturday meant that Villa will not be relegated to the Championship, but former Newcastle United midfielder Jenas has highlighted a positive from the defeat.
Think this is the slap in the face villa needed before the cup final, they've all had a lot of praise for the way they've performed latley..— Jermaine Jenas (@jjenas8) May 16, 2015
...They'll just be hoping spurs turn up today against hull.— Jermaine Jenas (@jjenas8) May 16, 2015
With Villa now safe from relegation, they can concentrate on the FA Cup final at London’s Wembley Stadium on May 30.
The Villans’ opponents will be Arsenal, who are assured of finishing in the top four of the Premier League.
The Gunners have the better team and the better players, and they will certainly head into the game as favourites.
However, the heavy defeat to Southampton will motivate the Villa players more, and one suspects that Sherwood will make sure that they are ready for the fight against Arsenal.
