Former Aston Villa talent Barry Bannan congratulates team on Twitter after Premier League survival

The Scotland international is currently at Crystal Palace.

Despite a humiliating 6-1 defeat at Southampton yesterday Aston Villa are safe from relegation in the Premier League after results elsewhere in the league.

Hull City and Newcastle United were also beaten, meaning Villa are safe from the drop for another season - despite the thrashing they received at St Mary's.

The Villa survival was also popular with a Crystal Palace player - as he is a former Villa starlet.

Barry Bannan, who spent most of this season on loan from Palace to Bolton Wanderers, sent out this Tweet yesterday after the 3pm kick-offs came to an end.

Bannan was at Villa from 2004 until 2013, when he departed for Palace, he played over 70 games for the club during his time at Villa Park and is clearly still a fan of the club.

His own future is currently in doubt. Alan Pardew does not appear to be a fan of the player and first-team football at Selhurst Park is limited for the midfield maestro.

Bannan will be hoping for a good move this summer, to somewhere he will play regular football. Before that he will hope to see Villa lift the FA Cup.
