Michael Dawson returned to White Hart Lane on Saturday, as his Hull City side took on Tottenham Hotspur in their penultimate Premier League game of the season.
The result did not go the Tigers’ way, with relegation remaining the most likely possibility after Tottenham won 2-0 courtesy of goals from Nacer Chadli and Danny Rose. But the reception Dawson got means it was a day he is likely to never forget.
The 31-year-old moved to Hull from Tottenham last summer and he has featured 27 times for Steve Bruce’s side to date.
He also regularly wears the captains’ armband and his importance to Hull cannot be understated, regardless of their current predicament.
They could yet get out of trouble, but they will have to beat Manchester United on the final weekend and hope Newcastle United drop points at home to West Ham United.
If they manage that, Dawson will be vital once more, and it was clear from his treatment by both sets of fans on Saturday that he is held in very high esteem by the supporters of both Hull and Tottenham.
After the match we took to Twitter to see what people had to say about Dawson’s latest performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:

What an amazing reception for a top man playing in front of his crowd for the last time. Not Gerrard, all about Michael Dawson.#spurslegend— David Perfect (@DavePerfect83) May 16, 2015
Will always love Michael Dawson... a man who gave everything for our club some of our current players could learn a lot from him— Katie TTID (@KatieCOYS) May 16, 2015
While we needed the win, I still feel awful for Michael Dawson. If there’s any justice, Newcastle will be the one sent down.— Chris Gorski (@gorskic) May 16, 2015
Fazio is just a less mobile, more error prone version of Michael Dawson. What was MoPo thinking?— Nick Finney (@nickfinney73) May 16, 2015
