Newcastle United are fighting for survival in the Premier League, along with Sunderland and Hull City.

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has taken to social networking site Twitter to make an amusing comment about John Carver (see post below).

Carver is the current head coach of Newcastle, and there is a distinct possibility that the Magpies could get relegated from the Premier League.

The last time Newcastle went down to the Championship Shearer was in charge. The Englishman was the manager of the team for the final eight games of the 2008-09 Premier League campaign.

Shearer could manage just one win in those eight matches, as the Magpies finished a point behind Hull City in 18th place.

Newcastle are a similar situation now, with Hull and Sunderland the other two candidates for the final relegation spot.

Under Carver, the team suffered eight successive defeats in the Premier League before playing out a 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion at St. James’ Park last weekend.

However, a 2-1 defeat to Queens Park Rangers away from home at Loftus Road in London on Saturday means that Newcastle’s fate will be decided on the final day of the season.
