Robbie Fowler jokes on Twitter after Southampton's Sadio Mane breaks his 21-year hat-trick record

Sadio Mané

Sadio Mane's hat-trick v Aston Villa is the fastest in Premier League history.

Southampton defeated Aston Villa 6-1 this afternoon in what was a sensational performance.

The Saints came out firing in the game, with Villa simply not being able to handle Southampton's pace up front.

A hat-trick from Sadio Mane, along with a brace from Shane Long and a Graziano Pelle striker, saw Southampton win comfortably - with Christian Benteke bagging the consolation for Villa.

The big story however was Mane's hat-trick. The Senegalese forward scored his hat-trick in just two minutes and 56 seconds. His three goals came in a record time, nobody has scored a hat-trick in the Premier League faster than Mane.

Liverpool legend held the previous record. Robbie Fowler scored three goals in four minutes and 33 seconds in August 1994 - in a 3-0 win against Arsenal.

Of course Fowler was quick to respond to the fact Mane had bettered his record. He sent out this Tweet straight away, as clearly plenty of people Tweeted him after the incident to tell him his 21-year record had gone.

We imagine it will be a very long time before Mane's record goes.
