A plane banner reading ‘In Rodgers we trust’ has been spotted circling above Anfield as Liverpool take on Crystal Palace in a match which will be remembered as Steven Gerrard’s last on Merseyside.
His final match in front of the Kop has prompted memorable scenes as flags, banners and tributes have been lofted high in plain view for the Sky Sports cameras to capture and cherish.
Yet, remarkably, the most intriguing banner to be spotted at Anfield was floating around in the evening sky via an airplane, reading ‘In Rodgers we trust.’
Ironically, it comes not long after a previous banner was spotted above the Reds’ ground pleading for the return of former boss Rafa Benitez following a run of disappointing Premier League results.
The Reds may have suffered this season, but it hasn’t been a disastrous campaign and the banner represents the faith shown in Rodgers and the belief that the team can push on again next season.
The Northern Irishman, however, will have to do it without the influential figure of Gerrard and his first task should be to find a player worthy of filling that particular void.
