The Hammers will head into today’s match against Everton at the Boleyn Ground on the back of a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa away from home at Villa Park.
Sam Allardyce’s side have been struggling for form and for points for the past several weeks, but Merson believes that they will win their final home game of the season.
“I think this is a big game for West Ham, their last home game of the season in front of fans who will want to go away a bit more happy than they have been recently,” the 47-year-old wrote on Skysports.com.
“And so I am going to go for them to beat Everton here 2-1 as Roberto Martinez’s side have had an absolute nightmare in the last two games.”
Could Paul Merson’s prediction come true?
As Merson points out, the West Ham players will be looking to give their fans something to cheer about in their final home game of the season.
It could also be Allardyce’s final match in charge of the London outfit at the Boleyn Ground, as he is out of contract at the end of the 2014-15 campaign and no new deal is in place.
Visiting Everton have lost their last two league matches, and their season is virtually over.
However, manager Roberto Martinez will not allow his players to ease off and will make sure that they give their best.
This is a tough game to call and a single goal could prove to be the difference between the two sides.
