Michael Owen: What my gut tells me about Queens Park Rangers v Newcastle United result

Newcastle Utd - St James Park

Michael Owen looks ahead to today’s Premier League clash between Queens Park Rangers and Newcastle United at Loftus Road.

Michael Owen has predicted in his Colossusbets.com column that Newcastle United will lose to Queens Park Rangers away from home this afternoon.

Newcastle will take on already-relegated QPR at Loftus Road in the Premier League and will be looking to return to winning ways.

John Carver’s side ended a run of eight successive defeats in the league last weekend with a 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion at St. James’ Park.

Meanwhile, QPR were hammered 6-0 by last season’s English champions Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Former Newcastle striker Owen believes that Rangers will bounce back from that hammering and pick up all three points today.

“QPR were playing one of the best teams in the country on Sunday,” the 35-year-old wrote on Colossusbets.com. “And this is the same Newcastle side who were beaten 5-0 by Man City, and who only managed to break a series of eight losses with a home 1-1 draw against West Brom.

“So, no, I can’t have Newcastle being favourites away from home to any side at the moment, and I take QPR to win either 2-1 or 1-0, though I will include 1-1 in my perm, too…

“I hope that I am wrong but, for all QPR’s performance at Man City, my gut feeling is that they will lose this game, so poorly are they playing at present.”

Could Michael Owen’s prediction come true?

Many Newcastle fans will fear that Owen could be right, as the team’s performance against West Brom was not really great.

There were some encouraging signs against the Baggies, but for the Magpies to win today, the players have to raise their game.

Although QPR have been relegated to the Championship, they have pride to play for and will be looking to give their fans something to cheer about.

However, if Newcastle head into the match with determination and willingness to give their all, then they should pick up all three points.
