Daniel Levy pledges to back Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino in the summer

White Hart Lane 5

After a season of mixed fortunes for Tottenham Hotspur, Daniel Levy offers encouragement to fans in his end of season address.

Writing in the official match day programme for Tottenham Hotspur's final Premier League home game of the season against Hull City, club chairman Daniel Levy offered his assessment of the season as a whole - with Spurs having flirted with a top-four challenge, but ultimately found themselves coming up short.

“The lift in performance mid-season...raised all our expectations, such that we've been disappointed by more recent results," he said.

He offered a glimpse into future proceedings at the club stating, “we have restructured the footballing side of the club to ensure our sporting philosophy is adhered to” and will “ensure we have a balance of experienced & homegrown players, playing attacking, entertaining football our fans love”. His announcement of this restructuring was accompanied with an acknowledgment that Spurs had perhaps lost their way a little bit in that respect.

Levy promised the full backing of head coach Mauricio Pochettino in the summer but mentioned the difficulties in competing with the revenues of his biggest rivals, with it important for the club to continue operating within their means.

He added: “While popular view may be to spend £ in excess of earnings or find a philanthropic investor...those are not possible under FFP.”

“Currently we're competing for Champions League qualification while driving revenue in the smallest stadium of the top 6 clubs.”

The stadium was the other focus of his message, with Levy underlining some of the trials and tribulations of the journey:

“The Public Inquiry & CPO process has cost us considerable money & time delay. I know you're impatient for its delivery," he said.

While reaffirming his ambitious plans for Spurs’ new home: "It will be our home for many, many years to come so we are determined to deliver it as the best stadium in Europe."

Spurs fans will be hoping Levy is true to his word and will be eager to see how this vital transfer window unfolds.
