Dier moved to North London outfit Spurs from Portuguese against Sporting Lisbon last summer.
“Watching them (James Ward-Prowse and Luke Shaw) play a lot for Southampton gave me the belief that this was the right place to come,” the 21-year-old told The Independent. “I thought if I deserved a chance, he (Pochettino) would give me it.
“All the time you are fighting for a place. Tottenham want to kick on and this manager is very ambitious. He is building a strong group and a strong mentality within the club.”
Pochettino made his name in English football last season, when he achieved unprecedented success with Premier League club Southampton.
The Argentine gave chances to young players such as James Ward-Prowse and Luke Shaw, and led the Saints to an eight-placed finish in the Premier League.
Things have not gone according to plan for Pochettino at Tottenham this campaign, but from Dier’s comments it appears that the players remain confident in the former Espanyol boss.
A number of young players, such as Harry Kane and Nabil Bentaleb, have found themselves playing week-in and week-put.
Dier himself has featured in 26 Premier League matches so far this season, as he continues to settle into life back in England.
