Beckham pays credit to Gerrard with single word and photo

The former Manchester United star took to social media to honour the Liverpool legend as he turned out at Anfield for the final time.

Former England hero and Manchester United favourite David Beckham has paid his own homage to his Three Lions teammate Steven Gerrard, as the Liverpool captain prepared to make his final appearance at Anfield.

The two midfielders were leading figures in the last 15 years of English football, with Beckham's dominant global brand quite different from the impression Gerrard and his commitment to his hometown club has made on football.

Since the former Real Madrid man won his last England cap in 2009, the players would have unlikely had the chance to meet up as regularly as they did.

But Beckham's Instagram picture, and the word 'loyalty', underlines the special bond between the two players, having shared international tournaments in Euro 2000 and 2004 and the World Cup in 2006.

They spent much of their early careers as opponents at fierce rivals Liverpool and Manchester United, but now Gerrard is set to follow Beckham not just as England skipper, but also as a star man in the MLS with LA Galaxy.

The now retired icon made 118 appearances in a five year spell in the US, helping the Galaxy to two MLS Cups.
