Report: Ajax want to sign Aston Villa star Ron Vlaar on free transfer this summer

The Dutch international is out of contract in the summer.

Aston Villa have turned things around this season under the stewardship of Tim Sherwood. He has led the club to what looks like Premier League survival and has also guided them to the FA Cup final.

Attention will soon turn to next season, when Sherwood will no doubt be bringing in a few new faces as well as blooding in a few more young players.

One issue they do still need to sort is the contract problem with centre-back Ron Vlaar.

The Dutch international has had a difficult time with injury this season, but has been much improved in recent weeks - helping Villa in their cause.

However, he is out of contract in the summer and after his heroics for the Netherlands in the World Cup last summer there is no doubt he is a wanted commodity.

Just a couple of days ago Tottenham and Manchester United were linked with the player by London24.

Now it is reported that Dutch giants Ajax are also in pursuit of the defensive rock.

It is reported by that the Amsterdam club are hoping to tempt the former Feyenoord colossus into a move back to Holland in the summer.

Ajax is a club many a Dutchman struggles to reject when they come calling, so there is definitely a chance he may end up plying his trade at the Amsterdam ArenA.

Villa fans will hope the current good feeling around Villa Park can help convince him that the Midlands should remain his home for now.
