Manchester United media round-up: Van Gaal identifies man to revitalise his attack

A round up of news stories this morning related to Manchester United.

The Daily Mirror has reported that Manchester United are keen on a move for Tottenham forward Harry Kane.

Kane has been the best English striker in the Premier League this season and the paper suggests United could pay up to £45 million to sign him.

There is arguably a need for a new player to come into the team and revitalise the attack of Louis van Gaal’s side.

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes said in his column for the Independent that he wonders if Steven Gerrard would have got a standing ovation from Manchester United fans.

Liverpool’s captain is coming to the end of his Premier League career and was given a standing ovation by Chelsea fans when he was subbed off at Stamford Bridge last weekend.

Scholes says he hopes fans of his old club would have shown the midfielder the same level of respect.

“I wonder whether Steven Gerrard would have got a final round of applause at Old Trafford - I also know that many of them, like those Chelsea fans, have a respect for a one-club player,” he said.

Goal.com has reported that former Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck may not be in line to face his former side this weekend.

United host Arsenal in one of the biggest Premier League fixtures this weekend, but Welbeck may not be involved in the game.

He moved to the Gunners at the back end of last summer’s transfer window, when Louis van Gaal decided he wasn’t needed at Old Trafford.
