Louis van Gaal gives Manchester United injury news ahead of Arsenal clash

Wayne Rooney

Manchester United will face Arsenal at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has told MUTV that captain Wayne Rooney will miss Sunday’s Premier League clash against Arsenal at home.

England international forward Rooney will miss the encounter at Old Trafford due to a leg injury.

The 29-year-old was taken off at half time during last weekend’s Premier League match against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park after sustaining a painful dead leg.

Van Gaal has now told MUTV that Rooney has not recovered and will not feature against North London outfit Arsenal.

The Dutchman has also ruled Luke Shaw out of the match against the Gunners. The England international defender suffered a face injury against Palace last weekend.

The former Netherlands national team coach, though, has some positive news on the injury front for the United fans.

Former Arsenal striker Robin van Persie is fit for Saturday’s clash, and so are Argentina international winger Angel di Maria and defender Marcos Rojo.

United will head into this weekend’s round of matches placed fourth in the Premier League table with 68 points from 36 matches, while Arsenal are two points ahead of them in third and with a game in hand.
