Gabriel Agbonlahor offers insight into Villa mentality for Southampton match

Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor is looking forward to facing Southampton at the weekend.

Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has told the club's official website of the attitude that his side will carry into their meeting with Southampton.

Villa are due to tackle the Saints on Saturday, and they are determined to maintain their good form as they endeavour to secure Premier League survival.

The Claret and Blues need one more win to confirm their status as a top-flight club for next season, and Agbonlahor feels this need for the three points will be the side's main motivation at St Mary’s.

"We know it will be a tough game and we'll have to be at our best to get something out of the game," he said.

"The attitude of our players when we set foot on pitch will be 'we need it more than you'.

"Hopefully we can use that to our advantage and get the three points. That's been our attitude over the past few weeks and hopefully we can get a positive result."

Southampton have been one of the Premier League's surprise packages this season, but their form over recent weeks has been disappointing.

There is no doubting the quality of Ronald Koeman's squad, but they have shown signs of fatigue in their latest fixtures and Villa will be confident regarding their chances of success.

The Midlands outfit have been one of the most threatening teams in the Premier League of late and go into the game with momentum on their side.

It means that Southampton will not relish the prospect of having to contain Tim Sherwood's men, but they have their own reasons to win the fixture.

The south cost club are still in with a chance of claiming a Europa League spot, but they will need to finish the season strongly if they are to make it into the top six.
