Gabriel Agbonlahor explains why Aston Villa teammate Jack Grealish doesn't need his advice

The 19-year-old has blown the likes of Agbonlahor away with his recent displays and work ethic.

Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has been so impressed with Jack Grealish’s recent progress that he does not believe there is much advice he can offer the teenager at this stage.

Agbonlahor was speaking to AVTV after witnessing Grealish produce another outstanding display in last Saturday’s 1-0 victory over West Ham United, as the 19-year-old set up Tom Cleverley’s 31st-minute winner with a neat cut-back, before going on to earn his first Premier League man of the match award.

While the Solihull-native struggled to break into the now-departed Paul Lambert’s side over the first half of the season he has since flourished under Tim Sherwood’s guidance, starting the past six games to rave reviews from both fans and the media.

As a local product who came up the Villa ranks himself, Agbonlahor knows full-well what Grealish will have to do going forward to ensure that he continues his rapids ascent, but the long-serving front man is adamant that his emerging teammate is set for a big future in the game.

Gushing about his performances on the pitch and work on the training ground, the former England man said: “For everyone who’s watching him now, I don’t think they’ve seen anything yet.

“Even today, he’s skipping past players in training – senior pros – and everyone’s just astonished at how easy it is for him.

“I think there’s a lot more to come from him and if you’re a Villa fan you should be excited.

“I do give him a bit of advice now and again,” he continued. “But I think that he’s clever enough in the way that he plays to understand the game himself.

“I think if you watch him play out there he’s flying. He can just do things out there which no one expects him to do.

“Great credit to him because he works hard in training. He always stays out and does extra shooting as well, so he’s still working on a couple of parts of his game to improve on.”
