Britt Assombalonga celebrates on Twitter as Nottingham Forest team-mate sends Southend United to Wembley

The Forest striker spent the 2012-13 season on loan at Southend and is clearly a fan.

Southend United are through to the League Two play-off final after defeating Stevenage 3-1 after extra time last night. That saw them win the tie overall 4-2 on aggregate and book their place at Wembley for a date with Wycombe Wanderers.

Tom Pett had put Stevenage 1-0 up on the day before a goal from Ryan Leonard levelled things up.

Barry Corr had a chance to win the game in normal time from the penalty spot, but missed with a poor effort.

Thankfully, goals from on-loan Nottingham Forest winger Stephen McLaughlin and Michael Timlin wrapped things up for The Shrimpers.

The game certainly had one Nottingham Forest player glued to the telly. Britt Assombalonga played the 2012-13 season on loan at Roots Hall from former club Watford, before heading to Peterborough United.

He is clearly still a follower of their fortunes, as these Tweets seemed to highlight:

Britt Assombalonga suffered a horrifying knee dislocation in February. The striker had scored 15 goals for the club this season and he will be sorely missed. He was ruled out for a year with the horror injury suffered against Wigan Athletic and Forest will hope he is back in action as soon as possible.

Until then, he will continue to give his support to Forest, and it seems Southend, going forward.
