Rumoured Arsenal target (per the Mirror) Yohan Cabaye could be set to leave France once again and join Italian giants AS Roma on loan this summer. TuttoMercatoWeb suggest that Paris Saint-Germain are set to let the France international leave the club, even if they don’t make any money from the move.
Ever since his switch from Newcastle United in the winter of 2014, he has never quite won his place in the French midfield. When he has had opportunities to make a difference, his performances have been poor.
The move would see Cabaye link up with Rudi Garcia in the Italian capital, the coach with whom he won a league and cup double while at Lille. Cabaye became a better player under Garcia and he may see this as an opportunity to rekindle that form.
In his 22 appearances this season, Cabaye has only found the net once. More importantly, he has only provided one assist. When he won the league with Lille, Cabaye laid on seven goals. It is a part of his game that has gone missing in Paris.
One issue with this deal is Roma’s need for it to be a loan with the option to buy. PSG face Financial Fair Play restrictions, leaving them with just €55 million to spend if they don’t sell anyone.
The door may reopen for Arsenal this summer, though, if they can offer PSG €15 million up front and the Parisians need money to go for a big-name target.
