The Northern Echo has reported that Newcastle United have set their sights on signing QPR striker Charlie Austin.
Austin has reportedly been identified as the man who can come in and revitalise the Newcastle attack, with the paper stating that he’s an alternative to Danny Ings, who seems set for a move to Liverpool.
The Magpies have been struggling to score goals in recent weeks and it’s encouraging for the club’s fans they appear to have identified realistic targets for the club to go after at the end of the season.
However, the paper states that the identification of Austin as a target for the club is based on the presumption that they will still be in the Premier League next year.
Newcastle aren’t out of trouble just above the bottom three but it’s encouraging that the club put an end to a losing streak with a point against West Brom last weekend.
Should the club go down, it transforms the face and nature of the sort of transfers that the club can go after and would naturally damage their chances of signing Austin, who will be playing for the club in the same division.
