Report: Derby County to rival Leeds United for centre-back target Jason Shackell

The Burnley player is being linked with a return to the iPro Stadium.

It has been reported recently that Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn recently drew up a shortlist of players he would like to bring in to Leeds in the summer.

One name reportedly on that list, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, is Jason Shackell.

The Burnley defender would bring plenty of Championship experience and would fill in at the back, where worries remain over whether Sol Bamba will stay and the over the future of Giuseppe Bellusci.

However, they are not going to be alone. According to a report in the Lancashire Telegraph, Derby County also want Shackell.

The Burnley man spent the 2011-12 season at Derby, before leaving to join the Clarets. He had an exceptional time at the club, even captaining the side late on in the campaign.

However, Burnley snapped him up after one season.

Leeds will certainly face a massive battle in convincing the defender that he would be best off rejecting his former club for, what is fast becoming a circus at Elland Road.

Shackell has played 37 times for Burnley this season but is still, bizarrely it seems, set to leave Turf Moor in the summer.

But Leeds have a real battle to get hold of him if Derby County come swooping in.
