Manchester United media round-up: Doubt cast over move for Clyne

A round up of news stories this morning about Manchester United.

The Daily Express has reported that Southampton are confident Nathaniel Clyne will turn his back on a move to Manchester United.

Right-back is one of the positions that United manager Louis van Gaal arguably needs to improve, with Clyne identified as a possible target.

The Daily Mirror reports that Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has been identified as an alternative number one to David De Gea.

De Gea continues to be linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer, which will leave United with a hole to fill between the posts.

Begovic has emerged as an alternative to the likes of Hugo Lloris at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Metro has carried the rumour that a move to Manchester United for Gareth Bale is moving closer.

The Welshman has been linked with an Old Trafford switch, with things not panning out as he may have liked at Real Madrid.

United are one of the only clubs in a position to be able to afford a move for the Welshman who moved to Spain in an £85 million deal from Tottenham.
