Derby County manager Steve McClaren says there is a determination at the club to get into the Premier League.

Derby County manager Steve McClaren has explained the message he has for the club’s fans in the Derby Telegraph.

McClaren has told the club’s fans that there is a real determination within the club to get into the Premier League, making up for the disappointment of the last two seasons.

The Rams suffered heartbreak in the play-off final defeat against QPR before missing out on the top six altogether last season.

“My message to the supporters is that there's a great determination from top to bottom of this club to build on what we have been doing,” he said.

“A great determination to make sure next season we mount another campaign that will first of all get us in the play-offs and, with the wind in the right direction, can get us contending for the top two.”

The first job for McClaren is going to be reviewing the playing squad and to make additions, which will give the club more depth than they had last season.

Derby had a lot of players on loan last year and they may not get all of them back, which gives him holes to fill.

He’s also going to have a big role to play in terms of the belief running through his team.

There will be some very disappointed players around the club because of the way the last two seasons have panned out.

It’s important that McClaren ensures that there is still a genuine belief that promotion into the Premier League is possible.

Hopefully the club can get off to a good start next year and the fans will have plenty to cheer about.
