With the Premier League season drawing to a close many a professional football is now looking forward to putting their feet up and enjoying the close season in an exotic holiday destination far away from the game.
Others however will remain in action. the European Under-21 Championships take place this summer and the Copa America will also be taking place throughout June and into July.
For one West Ham player that means no rest for yet another summer. Enner Valencia caught the eye of West Ham scouts at the World Cup in Brazil last summer, with his powerful displays for Ecuador making him a wanted commodity.
He will travel with Ecuador to Chile for the competition, but does not mind having yet another summer on the go.
He told the official West Ham site:
“I have the Copa America to look forward to with Ecuador in the summer. I was at the World Cup last year, so I haven’t had a break, but I’m lucky because I love my profession.
“I love playing football and I am looking forward to ending the season well with West Ham and then going away with the national team to prepare for the Copa America.
“I’m confident that we can have a good tournament because we have a good group of players, a new manager and technical staff and we believe we can do well.”
Valencia has had some injury trouble this season, after stepping on a broken mug at home, so West Ham were probable hoping he was going to get a bit of a rest this summer.
Instead he will be taking on the likes of Chile, Bolivia and Mexico with Ecaudor, who have also called up Manchester United's Antonio Valencia, Swansea City's Jefferson Montero and Watford's Juan Carlos Paredes for the competition.
