According to the Daily Mail, Everton and Newcastle are keen on signing N’Koulou, and will continue to scout him in the coming weeks.
A 25-year-old Cameroonian international, with 60 caps to his name, N’Koulou has played for Marseille since 2011, having transferred from Monaco. He is a key fixture in Marcelo Bielsa’s first-team set-up, and has registered an impressive 164 appearances to his name since his arrival at the Stade Velodrome.
This season he has featured only 22 times, although he was out of action due to AFCON commitments, and a knee injury prevented him from making a bigger impact.
The report states that Roberto Martinez has been personally scouting N’Koulou in the last few weeks as he looks for a long-term replacement for Sylvain Distin, who is expected to depart Goodison Park this season. Phil Jagielka is also advancing in age, and, at 25, N’Koulou has plenty of years ahead of him.
Newcastle are also referenced in the report as having an interest in the centre-half, and the Magpies have frequently utilised the French market in transfer windows.
There is no indication as to which club N’Koulou would prefer to play for, although the Toffees aspirations for European football look much more likely than Newcastle’s at the moment, and it is likely that N’Koulou would be much more tempted by a switch to Merseyside.
