Arsenal head to Old Trafford under the more pressure to get a result, as they’ll be eager to finish second and avoid having to play a Champions League qualification game.
The big German suggested that the match this weekend will be won in the midfield areas, throwing emphasis onto one of the club’s lower profile middle men.
“I think most important are the duels in midfield, around Marouane Fellaini, Francis Coquelin did really well last time. I think that is a major part of their game so we need to try to control this,” he said.
“It's not going to be easy. They obviously want to keep the ball as much as possible. Can we restrict it? Can we get the ball in their half and break? That is what we did last time and we did really well.”
Arsenal showed when they defeated United in the FA Cup at Old Trafford that they are capable of wearing down their opposition and taking advantage of the chances they create for themselves.
They also executed a game plan perfectly away at Manchester City in the Premier League earlier this season, with Coquelin exceptional in the way he nullified the big threats in City’s midfield.
He’s been superb since he arrived back at the club from a loan spell with Charlton over the first half of the campaign and has the look of a player who appears determined to push for a regular starting place next year.
The pressure is off of United because it would now take a miracle for them not to finish in the top four and Arsenal need to step on the gas and take advantage of that.
