Mallrats sequel officially named

Kevin Smith unveils official name of sequel, Mallbrats.

Fans of Kevin Smith and his classic movies have been on the edge of their seats since it was announced he would be a sequel to 1995's cult romantic stoner comedy Mallrats. Previously we had reported that writer and director Kevin Smith (Clerks, MallRats, Dogma) was re-uniting the original cast and now we finally have name for the movie, MallBrats.

Smith revealed the title on his Instagram account with a picture of the scripts front page.

As previously reported he has already assembled most of the original cast including;

Jason Mewes (Clerks, Dogma, Zak & Miri Make a Porno) as Jay,

Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy) as Silent Bob

Stan Lee as himself

Shannen Doherty (Mallrats, Charmed, Heathers) as Rene

Jason Lee (Mallrats, My Name is Earl, Almost Famous) as Brodie

Claire Forlani (Mallrats, Meet Joe Black, Green Street) as Brandi

Michael Rooker (Mallrats, The Walking Dead, Guardians of the Galaxy) as Svenning.

Jeremy London (Mallrats, Party of Five, Journey to the Centre of the Earth) as TS Quint

Brian O'Halloran (Clerks, Mallrats, Clerks 2) as Gill

Renee Humphrey (Mallrats, Fun, French Kiss) as Trish the Dish

Joey Lauren Adams (Chasing Amy, Mallrats, Dazed and Confused) as Gwen

Sven Ole Thorsen (Mallrats, Gladiator, Lethal Weapon) as La'Fours

Ethan Suplee (Mallrats, American History X, My Name is Earl) as William

No mention has been made regarding Ben Affleck's involvement but considering his character Shannon was last seen being hauled off by police after doing something with the then fifteen year old Trish the Dish it seems likely he won't return. No doubt he would be discovering just how uncomfortable the back of a Volkswagen may be in prison.

The prospect of this cast all together again under the direction of Kevin Smith is seriously exciting, especially for those of us who spent our teens watching his movies on loop, we just hope our huge expectations for this film aren't too high. Many fans were disappointed when Clerks 2 came out but it's possible that it was just that we expected something unobtainable as it is still a solid movie with some really classic moments.

MallBrats still doesn't have a release date but fingers crossed it won't take too long as we can't take the anticipation.
