Alex Cairns has left Leeds United this week and there were plenty of messages on Twitter about the young goalkeeper's departure.
Leeds United fans today found out which of their out-of-contract players would be released and which would be offered new deals; but hours before the full list was released, goalkeeper Alex Cairns took to Twitter to explain that his time at the club was over.
Since then, Leeds fans have discovered that the likes of Rudy Austin and Aidy White have followed Cairns out of the door. But earlier today the club’s faithful sent messages to the 22-year-old wishing him the best for the future.
Cairns only made one senior appearance for Leeds, in a 5-0 defeat against Blackpool during which the young stopper conceded the final two goals. He also spent loan spells at Barrow and Stalybridge Celtic having been at the club since he was a youth player.
And now he is looking for a new team where he will be hoping to get his senior career back on track.
Following the news a number of Leeds fans took to Twitter to wish Cairns all the best, with some citing the examples of David Seaman and John Lukic as ‘keepers who left Elland Road young before enjoying considerable success.
