Didi Hamann: After Balotelli, even £150m wouldn't be a punt on Benteke

The ex-Liverpool midfielder has made a big statement about the Aston Villa striker.

Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has taken to Twitter to express just how confident he is in Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke's ability.

Indeed, the German feels the Villa man's Premier League experience is such that the Reds should go all out to buy him.

And, on social media, Hamann made the statement that even £150 million wouldn't be a 'punt' on Benteke.

For context, the ex-Liverpool star compared the Aston Villa forward to Mario Balotelli.

Intriguingly, Michah Richards, currently on loan at Fiorentina, defended Balotelli in response to Hamann. The defender, who worked with the Italian at Manchester City, didn't come up with the strongest of arguments, however, prompting a firm response from the German.

Benteke's recent form for Aston Villa has been nothing short of superb - since Tim Sherwood took over at Villa Park, the Belgian is the Premier League's top scorer.

The issue for Liverpool, however, is that their track record with signings in recent years has been simply woeful. The Reds can't afford to gamble on a player just because he is in form.

Hamann's clear belief, though, is that the Aston Villa striker wouldn't be a gamble...
