Could Victor Valdes and Andreas Pereira get United chances before the end of the season?

Taking a closer look at two Manchester United players at opposite ends of their career.

Manchester United’s clash with Arsenal this weekend is huge for both sides, with the team finishing third in the league going straight into the Champions League group stage next season and those finishing fourth having to navigate a qualifying match.

As things stand, it will be United who have to do the latter, although victory in their last two matches could change that. But with Arsenal also having a game-in-hand, fourth does seem like the most likely finishing position for Louis van Gaal’s side.

If United head into the final match of the season away to Hull City with nothing left to play for except pride, it would be the perfect chance to van Gaal to give some of his fringe players a chance, with one long-awaited debut potentially on the cards.

Victor Valdes may have signed for United back in January, but the former Barcelona goalkeeper is yet to experience first-team action, instead being a high profile starter for the under-21s.

David de Gea has been an ever-present in this campaign and he may continue that for the next two fixtures. But few United fans would deny Valdes the chance to get his first taste of senior match action if possible.

Even if it was as a second-half substitute, it would be a nice gesture if van Gaal sent on Valdes against the Tigers.

Similarly, Andreas Pereira could get the chance to add to his two first-team appearances to date, with the Brazilian under-20 international potential celebrating his new contract with either a start or a chance from the bench.
