Report: West Ham interested in signing Italian goalkeeper Mattia Perin

West Ham

Perin currently turns out for Genoa, but West Ham reportedly want to sign him.

According to a report in TMW, the Hammers are keen on signing Mattia Perin, who currently plays for Genoa in Serie A.

A 22-year-old goalkeeper, Perin’s reputation has grown to incredible heights in recent years, having become a key player for Genoa despite his young age.

He has made 30 appearances for Genoa this term, conceding 35 goals and keeping seven clean sheets, and his impressive form has seen him earn international recognition with Italy.

He won his first cap in November 2014, and Perin is seen as the long-term replacement for Gianluigi Buffon for the Azzuri, having shown such a wealth of talent despite being at such an early stage of his career.

The Hammers are reportedly interested in bringing the youngster to the Boleyn Ground this summer, although Borussia Dortmund are also claimed to have been showing an interest in the stopper, as per the TMW report.

Adrian is currently West Ham’s undoubted first-choice ‘keeper, but with Jussi Jaaskelainen now 40, there needs to be a new stopper brought in as cover, and Perin would also provide competition for the Spanish star.

There is no indication as to a value that Genoa would ask for Perin, but with two years remaining on his contract, and age on his side, the Italian club hold all the cards in negotiations, meaning they can likely request a remarkably large fee for a player bound to have a bright future.
