Radamel Falcao has joined David Ospina, Carlos Sanchez and Juan Cuadrado in Jose Pekerman’s Colombia squad for this summer’s Copa America in Chile.
He may have only managed four goals in 25 Premier League appearances so far this season, but Radamel Falcao looks set to play a starring role for Colombia at the Copa America in Chile this summer.
The 29-year-old looks unlikely to remain at Manchester United beyond the season-long loan deal previously agreed with his parent club AS Monaco, after struggling for form under Louis van Gaal.
But Falcao will nevertheless be out to impress in the South American tournament, with Liverpool among those linked with a summer move for the forward.
The Metro is reporting that the Reds could offer Monaco £20 million to acquire the Colombian’s services this summer.
Though that figure is thought to be some way below the Ligue 1 side’s valuation of the player, injury problems and his recent barren run in front of goal could be enough to convince the Principality Club to cash-in on the Colombian.
Falcao is one of four current Premier League stars to feature in Jose Pekerman’s 30-man squad, according to an official announcement on the Colombia national team’s official website.
Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina is included alongside Aston Villa midfielder Carlos Sanchez and current Chelsea bit-part player Juan Cuadrado.
The 26-year-old has featured in 11 games for the newly-crowned Premier League champions this season, following his £26.8 million move to the Pensioners from previous club Fiorentina.
Cuadrado averaged around a goal every four games for La Viola, but has yet to find the net for Chelsea.
Falcao, meanwhile, will be hopeful of breaking Arnoldo Iguaran’s record as Colombia top scorer, having equalled the tally set by the Cafeteros legend back in 1993.
To date, the 29-year-old has scored 24 goals for the national team.
