Manchester United-bound Memphis Depay has revealed to The Sun his favourite playing position.
Depay will move to United from Dutch champions PSV in the summer transfer window after agreeing a deal with the Premier League outfit, as announced on the Red Devils’ official website last week.
The 21-year-old is a winger by trade, and he has revealed that his strongest position is on the left side, although he is able to feature in two others areas on the pitch.
“Left wing of a front three is my strongest position,” the Netherlands international told The Sun. “I like that position.
“The coach Phillip Cocu gave me the freedom to sometimes go in the middle so I can give space for the left-back. But I can also play on the right side or as a No 10.”
It seems that Depay would be looking to make the left-wing position at United his own, which means that Angel di Maria will face strong competition next season.
Argentina international winger Di Maria can also play on the left wing or on the right wing, and given that Depay is similar but younger means that the former Real Madrid star will have to step up his game.
The 27-year-old was expected to be a huge success at United following his move from Madrid in the summer of 2014, but he has been largely a disappointment.
In 26 Premier League appearances this season, Di Maria has scored three goals and created 51 chances, while having a pass accuracy of 78% and a shot accuracy of 46%.
Di Maria is not guaranteed a place in the United starting line-up at the moment, and the arrival of Depay from PSV means that he will face even more competition next season.
