Hot on the heels of New York City’s infamous fan song sheet, one Liverpool fan has posted a bizarre video detailing a chant celebrating Emre Can
Football often treads a fine line between fun and straight-up naff, and that is most certainly the case when it comes to chants.
The best chants are often catchy, easy to remember and likely to make the average supporter raise a smile, which is perhaps why one Liverpool fan has found himself mercilessly ridiculed online after posting an embarrassing “chant video”.
And the focus of this latest piece of vocal adulation? Outgoing club hero Steven Gerrard perhaps? Or the three musketeers of Sure deodorant: Simon Mignolet, Raheem Sterling and Jordan Henderson?
Wrong on both counts.
No, instead this latest chant focused on everyone’s favourite new utility man Emre Can
While we are happy to admit that the 21-year-old has been one of the few bright spots for Liverpool this season and among Brendan Rodgers’ best buys, we can’t help but feel this video is a little...naff and most definitely entirely unnecessary.
Featuring "lyrics" that play out across the screen like the opening prologue of a bad, red-tinged, Star Wars film, matters are hardly helped by the fact that the individual singing said chant clearly sounds like he’s from London or the surrounding Surrey area.
While we wouldn’t be surprised to see or hear this chant, or a variation of it, at a game in the near future, we doubt it will be as sterile and cringeworthy as this latest, lamentable effort.
Let’s just hope no Major League Soccer fans get hold of this...
