Lionel Messi and Pep Guardiola turn back the clock with half-time handshake

Amidst the heat of battle between Bayern Munich and Barcelona, there was still time for friendship, between footballing icons.

Together, they shared numerous impressive triumphs, as Barcelona reigned supreme during Pep Guardiola's managerial tenure at the Camp Nou, with Lionel Messi firing in the goals.

Now on opposing sides, Guardiola at the helm of Bayern Munich, Messi still banging in the goals with Barça, the Argentine maestro recently admitted he'd had little contact with his former coach, other than a few words at awards ceremoneis.

At the Allianz Arena, as the players left the pitch with Barcelona leading the second-leg 1-2 on the night, 5-1 on aggregate, there was a heart warming reunion between the pair.

Heading towards the tunnel, Guardiola stood waiting, arm outstretched and waiting to greet Messi. After shaking hands, the two shared words on the way back to their respective dressing rooms.

As things turned out, it would be Bayern who would win 3-2 on the night, but Barcelona still head to Berlin thanks to their 3-0 first-leg victory, and a 5-3 aggregate score.

In the midst of such a high-pressure contest though, it's still great to see former colleagues, share a moment of fondness, which doubtless will always remain between the two footballing icons.
