Riviere believes that the Newcastle squad are showing a togetherness as they fight off relegation.
Speaking to the Shields Gazette, 25-year-old forward Riviere has expressed his belief that the Newcastle squad are showing a team spirit that will aid them well in their fight for survival.
“We fight together,” the Frenchman said. “Ayoze scored the goal, but it looked like everybody scored. The team stayed together and fought. All the staff and the team are together.”
These are certainly comments that should please Newcastle fans, with the club looking in a state of disarray for the past few weeks.
Eight consecutive defeats have seen the Magpies drop precariously close to the bottom three, but the 1-1 draw with West Brom at the weekend ensured that they stayed above the final relegation spot.
However, it was not just the result that was important, but the massive improvement in performance levels from the previous fixtures. There was a sense that the Magpies would fight back to claim a result, even after going one goal behind, and they were unfortunate to not claim all three points.
The performance suggested that the remainder of this campaign would not be as despairing as the previous weeks under John Carver, and if playing like they did on a more consistent basis, the Magpies should have no trouble in securing their Premier League status.
