Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will be disappointed that his team couldn’t make more of the pressure they built against Swansea City last night, as they fell to a disappointing 1-0 defeat against the Swans.
Bafetimbi Gomis scored the only goal of the game with a late header, which left Arsenal’s manager, players and supporters frustrated by the nature of the result, considering the Gunners had most of the play.
What may annoy Wenger more than anything else is the fact that he has several players in his side who are capable of producing a piece of magic and creativity in possession, which can be enough to unlock an opposition in a split second.
One such player is German midfielder Mesut Ozil, who will be disappointed that he couldn’t have done more last night to make the difference over the 90 minutes, which would have left Arsenal talking about a win today rather than a disappointing defeat.
Ozil has shown flashes this season of just why the club spent so much money to sign him from Real Madrid two summers ago, but at other times he has gone through big games looking anonymous in the process.
Wenger has a player with the ability to be truly world class in the role just behind the main striker, but he needs to be shown the confidence to play in that position and trusted to make the right decisions inside the opponent’s final third.
He won’t want the season to fizzle out and will be as keen as anyone else for the club to secure automatic qualification into the Champions League, which will leave the club with a little extra time before the competitive games for next season get started for the club.
Here’s what Arsenal fans on Twitter made of Ozil’s performance last night.
Ozil was brilliant again tonight but it will be forgotten due to poor finishing— Calvin Masterson (@calvinmasterson) May 11, 2015
@GoonerGirl1969 ozil a poor game again doesn't even shoot the ball into the net, doesn't make since pay 42.2?m for him and he doesn't shoot— KemalGooner4forever (@kemalH2205) May 11, 2015

Spare me the #Swansea credit, the most fortunate win if the season. Shockers throughout but Ramsey and Ozil get the wooden spoon. Very poor— Andrew Walker (@Tates_Father) May 11, 2015
Very predictable play the whole game and so many players off key today. Only Ozil made things happen. Everyone else was poor.— I'llGoNearPost (@ilGoNearPost) May 11, 2015
Ozil has been poor— kingsley coman (@henrykoffi) May 11, 2015
So poor by Ramsey. Bad touch and bad shot. Ozil again making the chance.— Kash (@Cathorla) May 11, 2015
Decent compromise by Arsenal to have Ramsey and Ozil share RW responsibility. Though Ozil is more dominant central player.— reverse_ball (@reverse_ball) May 11, 2015
