Tottenham one of league's worst in key defensive area

Defence - Spurs v Chelsea

Everton have also been particularly poor when it comes to making mistakes at the back this year.

Tottenham's defence seems to be doing a good job of getting more and more error-strewn as the season nears its conclusion, and Mauricio Pochettino now has one of the most unreliable back lines in the Premier League.

Everton 15 18 48 36
Tottenham 12 13 53 36
C. Palace 11 14 50 36

Spurs have conceded 12 goals as a result of errors by players this season, the second worst in the league behind Everton, while they've also committed 13 errors that have led to shots.

Considering how high up the league they are, Spurs have actually done well not to let these continued errors in defence drag them down to a lower position, but it's not good enough from a side coached by a former international defender.

Even more astonishing, and something that somes up the dreadful defending that Spurs have been capable of all too often this year, is the fact that all three of the goals they conceded against Stoke at the weekend were because of errors in defence.

Tottenham 3 0 3 1

To put that in perspective, that's three times more than any other team at the weekend, and as much as Chelsea and Manchester United have managed all season.

Clearly, whatever Mauricio Pochettino has to do this summer, sorting out the defence must be at the top of that list, whether that's replacing players or changing systems.
