Liverpool may have seen their hopes of a top-four finish all but ended on Sunday, but their fans still had something to be excited about with teenage striker Jerome Sinclair making his Premier League debut.
The 18-year-old came on for the final 22 minutes of Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea, and while he could not snatch what would have been an unforgettable winner, his presence in the match-squad hints at bigger and better things to come.
Sinclair made his debut for Liverpool in the League Cup against his former club West Bromwich Albion, but his latest outing suggests manager Brendan Rodgers sees a sustained first-team role for him next season and beyond.
During the match, Liverpool players past and present took to Twitter to send messages of congratulations to Sinclair.
Sheyi Ojo knows the player well from their time together at the club’s academy and the 17-year-old winger was clearly pleased to see his teammate make the step up.
But perhaps most interestingly was the message from former Liverpool great Robbie Fowler. The ex-striker has been working with Sinclair in training and the fans will be hoping the teenager follows in the footsteps of his illustrious tutor.
