With Liverpool some way short of the pace in the Premier League and Arsenal more determined than ever to launch a serious title bid next season, two of the top-flight’s biggest clubs look certain to bring new players in this summer.
And one possible target showed just why he is rumoured to be on the radars of both clubs this week with a superb goal in Germany.
Kevin Volland is currently on the books of Bundesliga over-achievers Hoffenheim and is quickly developing a reputation as one of the brightest attacking talents in the German top-flight.
The 21-year-old operates primarily as a winger and is capable of playing on either flank.
Boasting electric pace and some notable dribbling skills, Volland is also in possession of a cultured left foot.
The Mirror were among those to link the youngster with a move to the Premier League, claiming Arsenal and Liverpool were among five English top-flight sides keeping tabs on the Bundesliga’s latest breakthrough star.
And Volland went some way to enhancing his reputation this week after scoring a sensational free-kick for Hoffenheim in a league fixture against Eintracht Frankfurt.
The goal may have done little to affect the result – Hoffenheim lost 3-1, having previously been 3-0 down – but it certainly went some way to suggesting the 21-year-old is one to watch this summer.
