Dean Shiels scored the winning goal as Rangers beat Queen of the South 2-1 on Saturday.

Rangers were given a huge boost in their push for promotion back to the Scottish Premiership as they beat Queen of the South 2-1 on Saturday.

In the first leg of their play-off clash, Rangers left Palmerston Park with a vital win, setting them up nicely for the return leg at Ibrox next weekend.

Steven Smith gave Rangers the lead on the stroke of half time with a stunning free kick, only for Derek Lyle to equalise after the interval.

Dean Shiels won it for Rangers though, heading home Richard Foster's cross from the right hand side to send manager Stuart McCall and the travelling Rangers fans back to Glasgow happy.

Northern Ireland international Shiels was the match-winner, scoring his fifth goal of the season as he continues to feature under McCall.

Fans were obviously delighted with the victory, and turned their attentions to Shiels' performance - with something of a split opinion.

Some fans lauded Shiels for his passion and called for Rangers to offer the midfielder a new contract, but others suggested that Shiels was being overrated, and still has much to prove at Ibrox.

Here are some of the reactions from Rangers fans on Twitter after Shiels' performance against Queen of the South on Saturday...
