Nene: Of course I wanted to play more at West Ham

West Ham United forward Nene says he respects the club's staff if he's not given the chance to play more before the end of the season.

West Ham United striker Nene has told the club’s website that he’s wanted to play more than he has done at Upton Park.

The Brazilian featured off the bench during the defeat against Aston Villa last weekend and is aiming to get more minutes in the matches against Everton and Newcastle United before the end of the season.

“Of course I wanted to play more but I respect the staff. I work every day to do my best to play and to help the team and when I get the chance I want to show I can help my teammates,” he said.

“It was difficult but this is football. I’m happy here and I hope in the final two games I can get more minutes.”

Nene’s desire to play more before the end of the campaign is understandable because he’s effectively playing for his future.

According to transfermarkt his current deal expires at the end of next month where he’ll either be looking for improved terms from the Hammers or will have to move on and find a new club.

He hasn’t scored for the club in the Premier League and considering the pressure Sam Allardyce is under to transform the side and move them forward, it’s arguable that he should be looking at a new and more exciting attacking signing.

Nene needs to have a blinder over the last two games and even then, there’s no guarantee that he’ll be kept on at the club beyond this year.

It’s been a brief association between the two parties and if it is to end, hopefully he can put some smiles on faces before signing off.
