Harry Kane says Vlad Chiriches' sending off against Stoke made it nearly impossible for Spurs to win

Tottenham Hotspur were beaten 3-0 by Stoke City at the weekend.

Harry Kane has told the Mirror that Tottenham Hotspur's task of beating Stoke City was made close to impossible by Vlad Chiriches.

Chiriches was sent off in the second half of the clash, with Spurs already 2-0 down, and Kane believes that was the point in the match where they were resigned to defeat.

Tottenham never got going at the Britannia Stadium and Kane admits that he was frustrated with the sloppy goals they let in.

“Getting a man sent off straight into the second half made it near enough impossible for us,” he said.

“I think we were fully motivated, but giving away sloppy goals doesn’t help – especially at grounds like this."

Tottenham's performance against Stoke ranks amongst their worst of the season and it showed the deficiencies in their squad.

Spurs had to play with a makeshift backline in the tie and they never looked comfortable, exposing the lack of depth in their team.

Kane cannot be considered blameless in Tottenham's defeat, though, as the striker never really got into the game.

The 21-year-old has had a brilliant breakthrough season, but has shown signs of fatigue recently and his performance against Stoke wasn't particularly impressive.
