Sunderland made it two wins out of two in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, when they got the better of Everton 2-0 away from home.

Second-half goals from Danny Graham and Jermain Defoe saw the Black Cats pick up all three points at Goodison Park.

Former Chelsea midfielder Hoddle was impressed with the performance produced by Sunderland and wrote on “You have to say that it’s been a magnificent result for Sunderland.

“To go away from home at this stage of the season, with so much pressure on them, and to come up with this result is unbelievable.

“You might expect a shock at home in front of their passionate crowd, but away from home with so few games to go, this is something that shows exceptional character, very similar to the way that Leicester have put a late run together.”

Victory over Everton at Goodison Park means that Sunderland are 16th in the Premier League table at the moment with 36 points from 35 matches.

Dick Advocaat’s side are only two points above the relegation zone at the moment, but they have a game in hand.

Not so long ago Sunderland looked doomed for relegation, but their results over the past couple or so weeks have sparked hope and optimism.

Wins against Southampton at home and Everton away are signs that the Black Cats do have it in themselves to give it a fight and avoid the drop to the Championship.
