Last week, United announced that a deal had been agreed, subject to a medical, to bring the free-scoring 21-year-old to Old Trafford this summer.
When you consider Depay has scored a quite remarkable 28 goals in 39 matches this season, there is no doubt he will add plenty to United’s forward-line, not least excellent finishing and blistering pace.
Not that Lineker thinks United manager Louis van Gaal will stop there, with the former England international suggesting this is just the start of a considerable overhaul of the club’s current squad.
“Manchester United are showing they mean business by walking in Memphis,” Lineker wrote, “the first of a number of new signings I suspect.”
United could also do with at least one new quality central midfielder and an experienced centre-back, while a right-back and a new striker (assuming Radamel Falcao returns to AS Monaco at the end of his loan spell) may also arrive.
Whatever happens, the fact that United have all but secured Champions League football next season means their targets are far more likely to say yes should an offer arrive.
