Report: Rodgers wants Liverpool to pursue Andreas Christensen, could make £6m bid

Liverpool are reportedly pursuing Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen.

According to The Sun, Liverpool are considering a move to sign Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen at the end of the season.

The Reds continue to struggle when it comes to signing defenders under Brendan Rodgers, with Dejan Lovren and Kolo Toure not up to the required standard.

Rather than sign an established player, Rodgers may now make a move for a younger defender who he can mould himself - and that could involve a move to snatch a player away from one of Liverpool's rivals.

The Sun believe that Liverpool are chasing Chelsea teenager Christensen, who is highly-rated in West London despite only playing for the Blues' first team twice.

The 19-year-old Dane joined Chelsea from Brondby in 2012, but has just one year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge, and is allegedly stalling on a new deal, meaning the Blues may look to cash in now rather than let him run his contract down into 2016.

That appears to have attracted some interest, with the report suggesting that Liverpool are ready to make a £6m bid to sign Christensen this summer, in an attempt to offer him a greater chance of first-team football at Anfield.

Manchester City are also credited with an interest in the Denmark Under-21 international, but paying £6m for a teenager with just two professional games to his name seems like a risk that Liverpool can't take right now - so a move to sign Christensen would certainly be a surprise.
