With Steven Gerrard leaving Liverpool this summer and set for a move to LA Galaxy, the Reds will surely be in the market for a new central midfielder ahead of next season.
The latest rumour suggests that the Merseyside outfit could well be lining up an audacious move for Juventus and Italy veteran Andrea Pirlo.
The Daily Mail suggest that Brendan Rodgers has identified the World Cup winner as a potential addition this summer that would add poise and influence in the centre of the park.
Pirlo put in a masterful performance for Juventus in their Champions League semi-final first leg win over Real Madrid in midweek and has been a key man in the Bianconeri’s recent run of domestic success.
However, the ageing star is out of contract in the summer and could well be tempted by a new challenge elsewhere.
Although Pirlo lacks the defensive discipline and physical attributes to play in the Premier League, his range of passing, vision and delivery from dead balls remains as good as anyone in world football.
The Italian is currently 35 years old and as such would not be a player for the future but in the short-term would add real quality in an area of need for the Merseysiders.
